Release Notes

Module: ResponseMaster
Release #: 836
Date: May 2026

Release Overview

This release builds on the monitoring and metrics foundation introduced in Release 830 with additional Prometheus metrics for message fetch times, processing times, and skipped message tracking. New bounce categorization rules improve detection accuracy across several major email providers, and a new MaxForwards setting gives administrators greater control over the FilterAndForward disposition. MIME handling improvements round out the release with better support for nested message content.

We recommend installing this release to take advantage of the latest email provider compatibility updates and enhanced monitoring capabilities.

Changes

Change Detailed Explanation
Email Processing & MIME Handling Enhanced MIME Support
• Added handling for the message/global-headers MIME type, ensuring these messages are correctly parsed and categorized.
• Fixed an issue where quoted-printable encoded text within nested message parts was not being properly decoded, improving accuracy of bounce message analysis.
Monitoring & Metrics Enhanced Processing Metrics
• Added processing time tracking (nProcessingTimeNs) to MessageProcessed in IMonitor, providing more granular visibility into message handling performance.
• Added MessageFetched event to IMonitor, enabling tracking of message retrieval operations.
• Added SkippedRemovedMessage event to IMonitor, providing visibility into messages that were skipped because they had been removed from the server.

New Prometheus Metrics
ResponseMaster_LastMessage — Timestamp of the last processed message
ResponseMaster_FetchTime — Time spent fetching messages from the mail server
ResponseMaster_ProcessingTime — Time spent processing individual messages
ResponseMaster_SkippedRemovedMessage — Count of messages skipped due to server-side removal

Configuration MaxForwards Setting
• Added a new MaxForwards setting to the FilterAndForward disposition, allowing administrators to limit the number of messages that are forwarded to the underlying disposition. This is useful for capturing a few examples of a certain type of message for human analysis/response.
Bounce Categorization Rules Updated Rules
• Reduced false detection of vacation and holiday auto-reply messages when “vacation” or “holiday” appears in the sender address.
• Added rule for Outlook/Microsoft DMARC authentication failure bounces.
• Added rule for organizations that block external email forwarding.
• Added rule for Office 365 failures when forwarding to hybrid (on-premises) mail servers.
• Added rule to detect bounces from closed Comcast email accounts.
• Added rule for messages blocked by The Messaging Company.
• Added rule for OXSUS-related bounce responses.
• Added rule for bounces where the sender address is explicitly rejected by the receiving server.
• Improved handling of temporary delivery failure responses.
Documentation & Compliance Maintenance Updates
• Resolved errors and warnings in JavaDoc documentation.
